Job Overview:
Hitachi Energy is seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Engineer specializing in Protection and Controls for our Grid Integration division located in Raleigh, NC. This pivotal role involves the creation of engineering outputs such as AC/DC schematics, cable lists, wiring diagrams, and specifications while collaborating with project team members, clients, and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze and interpret project requirements to develop advanced protection and control systems for large-scale industrial and utility applications.
- Prepare schedules and lists of technical deliverables.
- Draft technical specifications and conceptual design reports.
- Review and create single line diagrams, protection, metering, and control schematics, as well as wiring and interconnection diagrams.
- Design auxiliary systems, including load calculations and equipment sizing.
- Conduct load flow, short circuit, protection coordination studies, and arc flash assessments according to applicable standards.
Your Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a focus on Power Systems, along with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in substations and industrial electrification. Candidates must have valid work authorization to be employed by Hitachi Energy in the United States.
Essential skills include:
- Proficient knowledge of disconnect switches, circuit breakers, GIS, power transformers, and AC/DC auxiliary systems.
- Experience with engineering software tools such as ETAP, SKM, PSCAD, CYME, and AutoCAD Electrical.
- Familiarity with utility and industrial protection design concepts and major IED vendor hardware/software.
- Understanding of common communication protocols in the industry.
- Knowledge of electrical standards including IEEE, NEMA, NEC, and IEC.
