Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Early Childhood Speech Therapist provides specialized speech and language therapy services to infants and toddlers in their homes or community settings. The focus is on enhancing cognitive, language, and overall developmental skills, as well as oral motor and feeding abilities for children under three years of age who may be developmentally delayed or physically challenged. This role operates under general supervision, adhering to established agency policies, state and federal regulations, and ethical standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Conducts comprehensive assessments using standardized tools to evaluate the speech and language capabilities of infants and toddlers, while also gathering information from parents and caregivers to compile detailed reports.
  2. Creates tailored goals and implements direct therapeutic interventions that are seamlessly integrated into family routines.
  3. Facilitates parent training sessions that include modeling, teaching, and coaching on play-based strategies.
  4. Develops care plans for physician approval, ensuring compliance with Medicaid and other insurance protocols.
  5. Coordinates services for families in line with federal regulations and maintains accurate documentation.
  6. Assists families in identifying and accessing necessary services and support systems.
  7. Collaborates with treatment and assessment teams to provide comprehensive care.
  8. Educates families about their rights, responsibilities, and confidentiality regarding their child's care.
  9. Advocates for children and families to ensure they receive appropriate services and treatment from educational and other institutions.
  10. Maintains detailed case files, service plans, and progress reports, preparing necessary documentation for reimbursement purposes.
  11. Engages in community outreach by presenting at educational events.
  12. Participates in staff training and professional development activities.
  13. Continues professional education to uphold licensure requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

A Master's Degree in Speech and Language Pathology is required, along with relevant experience in providing direct services to young children.

CERTIFICATIONS

Must possess CCC-SLP or CFY-SLP certification, along with First Aid and Infant-Child CPR certifications. A valid state driver's license is also required.
