The Pharmacy Intern plays a vital role in supporting the Pharmacist with various aspects of medication distribution systems. This includes patient education and pharmacokinetic assessments, as well as involvement in quality improvement initiatives and data collection activities.
Key Responsibilities
The Pharmacy Intern is tasked with:
- Preparing dosages and sterile admixtures while adhering to aseptic techniques.
- Delivering floor stock, pre-packaging medications, and managing billing and receiving processes.
- Maintaining inventory control and overseeing the distribution of controlled substances.
- Documenting and ensuring accountability for all pharmaceutical activities.
- Assisting in the inspection of medication storage areas and ensuring cleanliness within the department.
All tasks are performed under the guidance of a licensed Pharmacist, in compliance with local pharmacy board regulations and state laws.
Patient Care
The Pharmacy Intern is involved in providing pharmaceutical care across various age demographics, including:
- Neonates
- Pediatrics
- Adolescents
- Adults
- Geriatrics
The Pharmacy Intern may also undertake additional duties as assigned by the supervising Pharmacist.
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Current enrollment in a Pharmacy program.
- Possession of a valid State Board of Pharmacy Certificate of Pharmacy Intern.
