Job Summary

Draper is seeking a highly skilled Microfabrication Process Engineer to join our team at the Draper microfabrication facility. As a key player in the clean room environment, you will contribute significantly to the generation and development of concepts in MEMs, photonics, microfluidics, and 3D integration, including interpose and wafer level packaging (WLP) concepts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and Development: Design and develop Microelectromechanical devices/sensors, schematics and physical layouts of integrated MEMS components or packaged assemblies.
  • Performance Assessment: Assess performance and process capabilities of potential MEMS device designs using modeling or simulation software.
  • Testing and Evaluation: Test and evaluate devices using a variety of tools, protocols, and software.
  • Issue Resolution: Analyze and address issues such as reliability, yield improvement, and/or failure.
  • Process Development: Develop production methods and fabrication processes for MEMS.
  • Documentation: Draft documentation such as operating instructions, performance specifications, and manuals.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Share performance experience and operating characteristics with designers or other engineers for new product development purposes and/or training.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain effective internal/external relationships.
  • Problem Solving: Help define the approach to solve a particular problem and independently execute assignments.
  • Content Creation: Contribute high quality content for technical reports and presentations with minimal guidance.
  • Communication: Proactively identify needs and concerns associated with design and manufacturing decisions and communicate them to project leadership.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics required. Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of Microsystems Engineering or related experience.
  • Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficient with the fabrication and metrology tools and instrumentation related to MEMS component fabrication. Proficient with software tools and systems used for device design, modelling, and performance testing. Proficient with software tools and systems used for statistical process control, and reliability and failure analysis, including yield improvement.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing processes for CMP (Chemical Mechanical Polish) and LPCVD (Low-Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition) highly desirable.
