Job Overview
This position is responsible for providing medical expertise to patients within our specialized care programs. As a Medical Specialist 2, you will work closely with other disciplines to ensure that patients receive the best possible care. Your primary duties will include participating in patient diagnosis and treatment, advising on medical policy and procedures, and reviewing lab work and specialty consults.
Key Responsibilities
• Participate in patient diagnosis and treatment, working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality care
• Develop and revise medical policies and procedures to ensure the provision of quality care
• Review lab work, specialty consults, hospital discharges, and medical visit summaries to assist the treatment team in providing the best possible care
• Discuss patient care with hospital or rehabilitation facility providers to ensure continuity of care
• Approve discharge summaries prior to accepting patients back into our care
• Review medical information for new admissions to ensure appropriate care can be provided
• Communicate with team members regarding medical issues and participate in team meetings as needed
• Provide short-term urgently needed prescription renewals when a community medical provider is unavailable
• Function as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team, attending meetings and serving on various committees and workgroups to improve individual services and outcomes
Requirements
• Possession of a license to practice medicine in New York State
• Certification by a Member Board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) in your specialty
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Commitment to delivering high-quality patient care
