Job Title: Librarian SY24-25

Join Metro Nashville Public Schools as a Librarian SY24-25 and contribute to the educational growth and development of our students.

Job Summary:

The Librarian SY24-25 will provide essential school library roles, including leader, instructional partner, information specialist, teacher, and program administrator. This role will work with students and teachers to facilitate access to information, instruct on information acquisition and evaluation, and introduce literature and resources to broaden horizons.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Empower students and teachers to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, and skillful researchers.
  • Collaborate with classroom educators to establish learning objectives and assessment strategies.
  • Develop and maintain a teaching and learning environment that is fun, inviting, safe, and conducive to learning.
  • Champion equity, access, and intellectual freedom for users within the physical space and beyond.
  • Foster exploration, discovery, creation, and innovation in a growth mindset.
  • Support learner success by guiding students to read for understanding, breadth, and pleasure.
  • Empower learners to work collaboratively and constructively assess their own work and that of their peers.
  • Model and champion digital citizenship and safety, adherence to copyright and fair use requirements.
  • Teach students and teachers to engage with and use information in a global society.
  • Model and develop a commitment to respect equity, diversity, and inclusion in collection development and within the learning community.
  • Support learners as they make meaning for themselves to create new knowledge by collecting, organizing, and sharing resources of personal relevance.
  • Address broader educational issues with other educators in the building, at the district level, and at the professional association level.
  • Develop and support the school's and the district's mission, strategic plan, and policies.
  • Manage the staff, budget, and physical and virtual spaces of the school library.
  • Evaluate, introduce, and model emerging technologies for the learning community.
  • Participate as an active leader of the local and global learning community, building relationships with organizations and stakeholders.
  • Support academy programs in collaboration with academy teams.
Requirements:
  • Requires education or training equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Library Science. Preferred: Master's in Library Science.
  • Previous experience in an educational or related setting is preferred but is not required.
  • Training and certification as a media specialist is required.
  • Requires a valid Tennessee teaching license, with Library Information Specialist preK-12 (473) endorsement, preferred.
Work Environment:

The Librarian SY24-25 will work in a school library setting, interacting with students, teachers, and other staff members. The work environment is fast-paced and requires flexibility and adaptability.

Physical Demands:

The Librarian SY24-25 will be required to stand or walk for extended periods, exert up to 20 pounds of force, and have moderate dexterity in operating machinery, tools, or office equipment.
