Unit Overview: The 5B Orthopaedic Unit specializes in the care of patients undergoing planned orthopaedic surgeries, including hip and knee replacements, as well as spine and neck procedures. We also cater to patients with orthopaedic injuries from falls or accidents, and trauma cases that are stable enough to transition from critical care.

This dynamic unit collaborates closely with a team of dedicated professionals, including Orthopaedic Surgeons, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Physical Therapists, and Occupational Therapists, ensuring comprehensive care for our patients.

Work Schedule: Caregivers in this role typically work from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM or 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct nursing care to patients.
  • Develop, monitor, and adjust patient care plans as necessary.
  • Document and communicate patient conditions effectively.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
  • Execute physician and nursing orders accurately.
  • Assess and coordinate discharge needs for patients.
  • Provide education to patients and their families.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • External candidates should possess two years of recent relevant experience.
  • Internal candidates with less than two years of experience may be considered after a probationary period with appropriate approvals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Personal Protective Equipment: Adherence to standard precautions and the use of personal protective equipment as required is essential.
