S&ME is seeking a dedicated and experienced CEI Roadway Inspector to join our dynamic Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) team in the Wilson, Rocky Mount, and surrounding areas. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to significant transportation projects, ensuring their successful completion.
Your Key Responsibilities:- Inspection and Oversight: Observe and inspect various contractor operations, including clearing and grubbing, earthmoving, paving, bridge construction, and traffic control, to ensure compliance with plans and permits.
- Documentation and Reporting: Prepare material reports, daily diaries, and field books for contractor payment documentation, maintaining accurate and detailed project records.
- Technical Tasks: Perform materials sampling and testing, verify line and grade with survey equipment, and conduct necessary calculations and computations.
- Compliance Checks: Conduct DBE and EEO compliance surveys, inspect erosion control devices to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Communication and Coordination: Attend meetings, interact with third-party construction personnel, and collaborate with higher-level technical and professional staff for project reviews.
- High school diploma/GED required and 4+ years of highway-related construction or inspection experience.
- 2-year technical degree or higher in Civil Engineering Technology or Surveying Technology with 2+ years of highway-related construction experience.
- At least two of the following NCDOT-based certifications: NCDOT QMS Roadway Certification, NCDOT Conventional Density Certification, NCDOT Concrete Field Technician Certification, NCDOT Erosion Control Level II, NCDOT Nuclear Gauge Certification.
- Strong communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language.
- Ability to complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device.
- Good math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure.
