Field Service Engineer

About the Role:

The Field Service Engineer is a remote position that requires servicing the Atlanta/Columbus, GA and Birmingham/Huntsville, AL areas. Travel up to 90% of the time is expected, and a home base in close proximity to the assigned market is necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Installation and Maintenance: Installs and starts up new equipment, or modifies existing equipment at customer facilities, to ensure proper operational functionality according to the equipment specification & scope of work outlined in the Sales Order or Field Service work instruction.
  2. Project Management: Reviews project scope of supply and budget allowance, and works within the allocated parameters.
  3. Troubleshooting and Repair: Executes and identifies technical issues and service jobs of heat treatment equipment at the customer site to provide on-site technical assistance to help repair, troubleshoot, perform preventative maintenance, calibrations, etc.
  4. Documentation and Reporting: Reviews equipment reports and documentation from the customer and other field representatives to aid in troubleshooting equipment faults.
  5. Problem Solving: Analyzes results and makes recommendations for repair or replacement of faulty components, and/or other corrective actions.
  6. Customer Support: Coordinates problem solving activities through central support structure, including Tech Support, AMS Parts group, Engineering, or Customer Service Managers, to expedite required repairs.
  7. Sales and Marketing: Identifies and promotes up-/cross-selling potential for services of heat treatment equipment at the customer site.
  8. Customer Interface: Function as first point of contact for customers with existing service contracts.
  9. Job Planning and Scheduling: Plan and schedule service jobs in coordination with the Regional Service Manager.
  10. Record Keeping: Accurately and timely record hours worked, job assignments, and submit expense reports.
  11. Customer Training: Documents performed service jobs and record possible warranty claims and trains on essential skills through workshops, bulletins, and on-the-job shadowing, based on field insights and company offerings.

  3. Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  4. Problem Solving Skills: Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry, service area, volume, and pressures.
  5. Instruction Following: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  6. Computer Skills: Knowledge of basic computer operations and software programs.
  7. Mechanical and Electrical Aptitude: Possess strong mechanical and electrical aptitude and skills.
  8. Problem Solving and Troubleshooting: Possess good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with hands-on mentality.
  9. Independence and Decision Making: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and key decision-making skills.
  10. Customer Focus: Possess strong customer service focused mentality.
  11. Travel Requirements: Must have a current, valid driver's license and service automobile insurance coverage as stated in the Ipsen Travel Policy.
  12. Geographic Requirements: Ability to travel up to 90% of the time, mostly domestic with occasional international.
Education and Experience:
  1. Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  2. Experience: 2 years of related industrial equipment operation and/or maintenance experience and completion of an intensive industry training program or 4+ years of related industrial equipment operation and/or maintenance experience.
  3. Preferred Experience: Experience in equipment calibration, pyrometry, vacuum, thermal and TUS experience preferred.
