The objective of Correctional Managed Care is to fulfill the healthcare requirements of marginalized patient groups within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).
POSITION SUMMARY:
This role involves delivering direct nursing services to a designated cohort of patients while executing nursing tasks within the parameters of the nurse's education and proven competencies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Deliver direct nursing services to designated patients.
2. Engage in the assessment, planning, execution, and evaluation of the nursing care provided.
3. Conduct admission, discharge, and transfer protocols.
4. Utilize the nursing care plan in daily responsibilities, with the ability to review and, under supervision, adjust the care plan.
5. Exhibit proficiency in observing and documenting the signs, symptoms, and behaviors, including the physiological condition of patients, and propose modifications to interventions and expected outcomes.
6. Implement designated nursing interventions to assigned patients that align with the state medical care plan.
7. Alert relevant nursing and medical personnel of any changes in patient conditions; identify patient care priorities, multidisciplinary treatment strategies, and potential patient care emergencies.
8. Adhere to physician directives in the provision of nursing care.
9. Safeguard patient privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times.
10. Administer medications and treatments safely and correctly.
11. Execute written physician orders for assigned patients.
12. Gather equipment and supplies for various diagnostic or treatment procedures in the specialty service area; perform or assist others with procedures or treatments.
13. Comply with necessary infection control, isolation protocols, and aseptic techniques in patient care delivery.
14. Document nursing care in all assigned patient records.
15. Follow internal controls and reporting structures.
16. Perform related duties as required.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Standard patient care supplies, equipment, and mechanical devices.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is situated within a correctional facility, requiring security clearance and pre-employment drug screening.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a Licensed Vocational Nurse Program and a current license/permit as a vocational nurse in the State of Texas. No prior experience is necessary.
Current BLS-HP certification is required.
Compensation is based on years of relevant experience.
