Job Summary:

We are looking for a skilled and meticulous Financial Controller to join our organization. The Financial Controller will be responsible for managing all financial operations, including the preparation of financial statements, budget development, and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership capabilities and possess a comprehensive understanding of financial operations within the horticultural sector.

Key Responsibilities:

Bank Reconciliation:

  • Oversee the monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts.
  • Ensure the accuracy and prompt reporting of all bank transactions.

Petty Cash Oversight:

  • Supervise the management and documentation of petty cash transactions.
  • Maintain petty cash records and conduct regular audits.

Compliance with Borrowing Agreements:

  • Monitor adherence to all borrowing agreements, providing necessary documentation of inventory, receivables, and payables to financial institutions upon request.
  • Manage debt levels, loan documentation, and related reporting requirements.

Inventory Assessment:

  • Oversee the quarterly valuation of inventory, ensuring accurate costing and accounting practices.
  • Implement and monitor inventory costing procedures to enhance methods and reduce costs.

Costing Analysis:

  • Develop and maintain costing models to support pricing strategies and financial planning.
  • Analyze and report on cost variances and trends.

Preparation of Financial Statements:

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reports.
  • Conduct year-end financial analysis and audits.
  • Provide insights and recommendations for financial enhancements.
  • Ensure compliance with all payroll tax obligations.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive financial reports to the board of directors.
  • Communicate financial performance, forecasts, and strategic recommendations.

Collaboration on Budgeting:

  • Work closely with department heads to develop and manage annual budgets.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to optimize budgetary performance.

Quarterly Tax Filings:

  • Prepare and submit quarterly tax returns.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations.

Royalty Management:

  • Oversee the calculation and reporting of royalties.
  • Ensure accurate and timely payments to partners.

ACA Compliance:

  • Manage Affordable Care Act (ACA) reporting requirements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of ACA documentation in collaboration with the HR department.

Leadership of Accounting Team:

  • Lead and mentor an accounting team of three direct reports.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
  • Provide oversight support to accounts receivable and accounts payable as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
  • Experience in the horticulture or agriculture industry is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization.
