The YMCA of South Hampton Roads is seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician to join our team. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our 29 facilities, equipment, and grounds.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure safety, proper functionality, and aesthetics of facilities, equipment, or fixtures.
- Inspect buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repair.
- Perform minor electrical maintenance, including replacement or repair of fixtures, using appropriate hand, power, and specialty tools.
- Perform minor plumbing maintenance, including replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, and laying new lines.
- Provide assistance with outside contractors and repair work, following up on work reviews and ensuring efficient completion.
- Perform minor painting, carpentry, and masonry work, including preparing surfaces and applying paints, stains, and varnishes.
- Complete assigned maintenance functions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Follow all safety rules and procedures, and operate equipment in accordance with established safety policies and department procedures.
- Minimum 3 years progressively responsible experience in general facilities maintenance.
- Proficient knowledge of reading project development plans, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical systems.
- Knowledge of state and local building, fire, and health codes, as well as OSHA safety requirements and laws.
- Proficient knowledge of computers, including Excel and Word, and software relevant to the position.
- Punctuality and reliability are essential.
- Effective communication skills are required.
- The physical demands of this role include climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching with hands, sitting, standing for extended periods, climbing ladders, walking, shoveling snow, plowing snow, lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds, and performing repetitive motions.
- The work is performed both indoors and outdoors, requiring travel to various locations, with up to 85% local travel and 15% travel to other locations.
- The employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time.
