Hillsboro, United States Microsoft Corporation Full time

Microsoft Corporation is a global leader in cloud computing, and its Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) team plays a crucial role in powering the company's expanding cloud infrastructure. As a Senior Platform Systems Engineer, you will be part of this innovative team that delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses.

The SCHIE team is responsible for defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale, and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware. To achieve this goal, the team collaborates with architecture, silicon engineering, firmware, hardware design, hardware validation, OS, manufacturing, and customer teams to build state-of-the-art AI, compute, storage, networking, and accelerator hardware solutions.

As a Senior Platform Systems Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include collaborating with cross-functional teams to build and deploy new hardware technology, leading platforms debug forums to address issues encountered during the product development phase, and performing hands-on debugging of critical platform-level issues. You will also be responsible for developing innovative debugging methodologies for the triage and resolution of issues in remote data centers.

This role requires strong technical skills, particularly in system-level design and implementation across the hardware development lifecycle. You must have experience working with hardware, firmware, management firmware, and/or software interfaces across all modules in a system, as well as knowledge about datacenters and operations at scale. Additionally, you should have a proven track record of bringing up, integrating, and deploying new hardware technology.

To be successful in this role, you must have a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, and at least 7 years of technical engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. You must also be able to meet Microsoft's security screening requirements, which include passing the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

In terms of compensation, the typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is $153,600 - $250,200 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
