Lexington, Kentucky, United States Magnet Medical Full time
Magnet Medical Career Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Travel Nurse PCU Specialist to join our team at Magnet Medical in Lexington, Kentucky.

About the Job
  • Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit
  • Discipline: RN
  • Duration: 12 weeks
  • 36 hours per week
  • Shift: 12 hours, nights
  • Employment Type: Travel

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) provides intermediate care for patients who require a higher level of monitoring and treatment than in a general medical-surgical unit but do not require the intensive care provided in an ICU. This role is critical in delivering high-quality patient care, ensuring patient safety, and promoting positive outcomes.

Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Assessment and Monitoring

The RN will conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with moderate to high acuity, monitoring their physical and emotional needs. They will continuously evaluate vital signs, lab results, and cardiac rhythms for any changes that may indicate a need for intervention.

The RN will identify potential risks and complications, such as arrhythmias, respiratory distress, or post-operative issues, and act accordingly. They will also administer prescribed medications and treatments, including IV medications, pain management, and blood products.

The RN will monitor patients with telemetry, arterial lines, and other continuous monitoring devices, adjusting care as necessary. They will provide post-surgical care for patients who have undergone major surgery, including cardiovascular, neurological, or orthopedic procedures.

Collaboration and Teamwork

The RN will work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans. They will participate in daily rounds and communicate with the team regarding patient condition, response to treatments, and any changes in care plans.

The RN will serve as a resource to less experienced nursing staff and participate in mentoring or training initiatives. They will collaborate with PCU colleagues, support staff, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe and efficient patient care.

Patient Education and Safety

The RN will educate patients and families about the recovery process, treatment plans, medications, and any required lifestyle changes. They will provide guidance on managing chronic conditions, improving health, and preventing readmissions.

The RN will follow infection control protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to minimize the risk of hospital-acquired infections. They will respond to changes in patient condition quickly and appropriately, including initiating emergency procedures if needed.

Salary and Benefits

This is a travel nursing job opportunity offering a competitive salary package based on 12 hour shifts and 36.0 hours per week. The estimated annual salary for this position is approximately $124,000-$137,000, depending on experience and location.
