Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a skilled Public Health Nurse to join our team. As a Public Health Nurse, you will play a critical role in promoting health and preventing disease in our communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional nursing care to patients in clinics, homes, and schools, and other community or congregate care settings.
  • Perform nursing assessments, conduct lab tests, take measurements, develop and implement care plans, and administer medication and case management.
  • Participate in public health emergencies and community health assessments.
  • Supervise support staff and provide leadership and guidance as needed.

Requirements

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Virginia or a compact state.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong problem-solving and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge of public health concepts, principles of public health nursing, and epidemiology.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional study or experience in health promotion or public health.
  • Experience in a public health setting or one related to disease prevention and health promotion.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm, with occasional evening and weekend work providing community outreach events and/or in-home visits.
