VitalCore Health Strategies, a leading provider of correctional healthcare services, is seeking a highly skilled Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant to join our team at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center in North Charleston, South Carolina.
About the Role:
The successful candidate will utilize the medical model to provide a range of healthcare services, with a primary focus on ambulatory care. Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, including healthcare professionals and security officers, the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will provide basic medical services under the supervision of a licensed physician.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to and initiate care for medical emergencies throughout the facility.
- Identify inmate/patient health problems and prescribe treatment under the direction of a physician.
- Implement medical care utilizing therapeutic regimens approved by a physician.
- Provide education to inmates/patients, healthcare, and correctional staff.
- Document all healthcare contacts.
- Adhere to safety and security policies and participate in disaster drills.
- Follow security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications.
- Assign tasks to team members as needed.
- Adhere to Universal Precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.
- Attend training and meetings as required.
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited college/university NP/PA program.
- Current licenses or certifications in this state.
- Experience in correctional healthcare desired but not required.
- Acute care experience preferred.
