Role Overview

As an essential member of the viral division, the specialist will oversee the cultivation and processing of cells and viruses utilized in vaccine development. This pivotal position will involve production activities, enhancements to processes, and the necessary support functions to guarantee the effective delivery of vaccines to numerous clients across North America and globally.

Standard working hours are from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Flexibility within these hours may be available.

Key Responsibilities:

Viral Processing

  • Extraction of primary cells for viral cultivation
  • Cultivation and extraction of viral fluids for subsequent processing
  • Disassembly, sanitation, and reassembly of viral production equipment
  • Preparation of liquid media essential for viral processes
  • Upholding a sterile work environment to ensure cleanliness

Compliance, Process Enhancement, and Collaboration

  • Maintaining accurate records related to viral processes, documented manually.
  • Working independently as part of small teams during production activities.
  • Timely completion of assigned tasks while ensuring workflow continuity.
  • Conducting routine facility sanitation and maintaining organized workspaces.
  • Completing mandatory training in documentation and safety protocols.
  • Assisting in experimental design and technical transfer initiatives, while communicating project updates to relevant stakeholders across departments.
  • Training or cross-training fellow technicians.
  • Reviewing and revising manufacturing documentation.
  • Investigating new equipment and processes, applying findings to job responsibilities.
  • Collaborating with cross-departmental teams to implement innovative processes.
  • Addressing technical inquiries from colleagues within the department and other departments.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Fundamental math skills
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Diligent individual with a positive outlook and a commitment to detail-oriented task completion.
  • Natural strengths in multitasking, problem-solving, and prioritization.
  • Confidence to work independently and make decisions autonomously.
  • Willingness to engage in hands-on work that involves being active, twisting, turning, reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping, and occasionally lifting equipment.
  • Capability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to adapt positively to changes in daily routines.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds without assistance, as well as maneuvering mobile carts and process vessels.

Experience and Education:

  • One (1) to Two (2) years of experience in a manufacturing setting preferred
  • Mechanical problem-solving experience or aptitude is highly advantageous
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two (2) or Four (4) year degree in any technical discipline preferred.
