POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Lead is tasked with delivering comprehensive clinical pharmacy services tailored to a specific practice area, ensuring the optimization of safe, effective, and economical drug therapy in compliance with all regulatory bodies.
This role acts as a pharmacotherapy authority within an interdisciplinary patient care team, engaging in direct patient care, conducting pharmacotherapy consultations, and providing medication-related education to both patients and team members. Participation in quality improvement initiatives and research projects is essential, along with contributing to the development of medication-related best practice guidelines and policies pertinent to their area of expertise.
The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Lead is a pivotal leader within the department, spearheading departmental initiatives and facilitating educational opportunities for pharmacy colleagues and trainees across all practice levels.
Demonstrating a solid understanding of the operational components of the pharmacy department, the Lead plays a vital role in achieving departmental goals as an integrated member of the pharmacy team. This position includes direct supervision and management responsibilities for a specialized clinical team within the department.
A Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Lead is expected to meet and uphold the qualifications of a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist III. Beyond clinical duties, the Lead is accountable for service line performance and continuity, which encompasses schedule management, recruitment and retention efforts, performance evaluations, educational training, and conflict resolution within the specialty team.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
A Pharm.D. degree or a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy is mandatory. Completion of an ASHP-accredited Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Pharmacy Residency with a minimum of three years of experience in a specialty area or equivalent experience is required.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
Current Pharmacy and Pharmacy Preceptor licensure, or eligibility for licensure, in the state of Texas is essential. Certification by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties, as applicable to the specialty, is also required.
