Medical Coding Specialist

Ochsner Health is a leading healthcare provider seeking a highly skilled Medical Coding Specialist to join our team in Inpatient Services. As a key member of our coding team, you will play a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely coding of patient records.
Job SummaryThe Medical Coding Specialist will be responsible for assigning ICD-10 codes within established coding guidelines, rules, and regulations. This includes coding of diagnoses and PCS procedures for complex hospital accounts performed in the inpatient setting. You will also ensure data integrity of coded patient records by reviewing medical documentation and validating that documentation is sufficient to support assigned codes.
Key Responsibilities- Assign ICD-10 codes according to established coding guidelines, rules, and regulations
- Coding of diagnoses and PCS procedures for complex hospital accounts performed in the inpatient setting
- Ensure data integrity of coded patient records by reviewing medical documentation
- Validate that documentation is sufficient to support assigned codes
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in health information management or related field
- 3+ years of experience in medical coding, with a focus on inpatient services
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification or willingness to obtain
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
