Surgical Technologist

Geisinger Health System is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures. If you are a detail-oriented individual with excellent communication skills, we encourage you to apply.
Key Responsibilities- Assist surgeons with procedures, maintaining a safe and sterile environment
- Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure seamless patient care
- Provide basic patient assistance, connecting patients to necessary equipment
- Practice aseptic techniques, preparing for surgery and maintaining a clean environment
- Participate in surgical Time Out and operating room briefing, verifying correct surgical site
- Maintain accurate accounts of supplies, verifying counts with the circulating nurse
- Prepare, identify, and verify specimens obtained during surgical procedures
- Dispose of linens, needles, and sharps in appropriate containers
- Assess wounds, apply or change sterile dressings as instructed by the registered nurse
- Maintain and document universal precautions, initiating emergency procedures as needed
- Participate in admission and discharge processes, performing billing as necessary
- Act as a preceptor for students assigned to the surgical unit, adhering to all policies and protocols
- Perform quality control monitoring, additional duties including specimen collection, pleure-vac, and traction setup
- Graduate from a Specialty Training Program
- Minimum of 1 year of related work experience (preferred)
- Certification(s) and License(s) as required by the state and employer
