Overview
As a Direct Care Worker, you will be instrumental in delivering empathetic support and assistance to individuals in need of help with their daily activities. This role is essential in fostering a nurturing environment that enhances the quality of life for those we serve.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver attentive care and support with daily living tasks, including personal hygiene, dressing, and grooming.
- Observe and communicate any changes in clients' health or behavior to the appropriate personnel.
- Administer prescribed medications and maintain precise records of medication administration.
- Prepare and serve meals that adhere to specific dietary needs, providing assistance with feeding when required.
- Accompany clients to medical appointments and outings, ensuring their safety and comfort during travel.
- Maintain a tidy and safe living space by performing light housekeeping duties such as laundry and dishwashing.
- Implement personalized care plans as outlined by healthcare professionals.
- Offer emotional support and companionship, promoting clients' mental and social well-being.
- Assist clients with mobility, utilizing mobility aids as necessary.
- Encourage participation in recreational activities tailored to clients' interests and abilities.
- Uphold clients' privacy and confidentiality in all aspects of care.
- Document client care accurately and maintain up-to-date progress notes.
- Participate in staff meetings and engage in ongoing training and professional development.
- Respond to emergencies and provide first aid when required.
- Support clients in achieving independence within their care plans.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid.
- Prior experience in caregiving or a similar role.
- Ability to pass background checks and drug screenings.
- Physical capability to assist clients as needed.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Empathetic and patient attitude.
- Basic knowledge of hygiene and sanitation standards.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights and weekends.
- Reliable transportation.
- Understanding of basic healthcare procedures.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain confidentiality.
- Basic computer skills for documenting care in electronic health records.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
