Position Overview
Duke University Health System is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse who will uphold our mission of Advancing Health Together. Our team is committed to delivering exemplary care for each patient, ensuring an outstanding patient experience at all times.
Role Responsibilities
The Med-Surg Nursing Float Pool team is responsible for providing patient care, support, and treatment for a diverse range of patients across our Medical Surgical units. Nurses in this unit will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and have the opportunity to participate in patient rounds.
Patient Care Ratio
The average patient ratio ranges from 1:3 to 1:6, depending on patient acuity. Each unit is staffed with a dedicated charge nurse and Health Unit Coordinator available 24/7. Nursing Care Assistants are present on the unit during both day and night shifts.

Qualifications
As a Clinical Nurse II at Duke University Health System, you will be responsible for planning and delivering professional nursing care in accordance with established medical and nursing protocols. You will:
- Plan, provide, supervise, and document nursing care based on physician orders and established policies.
- Utilize professional judgment to tailor care plans based on patient assessments.
- Delegate tasks and oversee the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers.
- Assist nursing personnel in delivering care and act as team leader or charge nurse as assigned.
- Monitor and maintain the care environment, including equipment and resources.
- Engage in professional development by maintaining competencies and seeking educational opportunities.
- Act as a preceptor and support the development of other staff and learners.
- Participate in identifying and improving clinical or operational performance.
Education Requirements
Graduation from an accredited Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate's Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program is required. All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing must enroll in a BSN program within two years of their start date and complete it within five years.
Licensure
Current registration with the North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse or current compact RN licensure to practice in North Carolina is required.
