Join the City of Gaithersburg's Recreation Services Division as a Program Supervisor and play a key role in planning, organizing, and executing a wide range of programs, classes, special events, and activities for all ages.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and overseeing a team of staff and volunteers, developing and implementing programs and activities, and providing excellent customer service to the community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, implement, and supervise programs, classes, events, and activities
  • Identify and analyze programming needs of the community
  • Develop, direct, and implement programs and activities to meet community needs
  • Assist in maintaining a welcoming atmosphere and creating new and impactful programs and activities
  • Administer the Center's social media accounts and lead creation of and contribute to the Center/Recreation Classes e-newsletter
  • Assist with Center management, including tasks pertaining to staffing, coverage, facility needs, financial operations, reporting, and customer service
  • Maintain and prepare various records, logs, reports, and documentation
  • Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate part-time and seasonal staff and volunteers
  • Work with local agencies to encourage sponsorship or participation in activities, programs, or events
  • Collaborate with other City departments and organize partnerships to support various programs
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and recommend and implement improvements
  • Research, pursue, and develop marketing plans and initiatives, and prepare and distribute promotional and marketing materials
  • Participate in budget development and monitor budget of assigned programs
  • Analyze and recommend changes to program fees, charges, and expenditures
Qualifications:
  • Relevant Bachelor's Degree
  • At least three years of professional experience in recreation administration, with some experience supervising staff and volunteers
  • Demonstrated relevant programming and management experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of access and inclusion as it pertains to recreation or experience in therapeutic recreation
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational, time management, outreach, marketing, communication (verbal and written), and customer service skills
  • Proficient with administering and managing social media accounts
  • Demonstrated ability to foster relationships with key partners and stakeholders
  • An understanding of the needs of an ethnically and economically diverse community
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office applications), with experience with financial/recreation management software a plus
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification (may be obtained through the City upon hire)
