Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented OR Support Assistant to join our team at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center Healthcare. As an OR Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms, providing exceptional patient care, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Gather and prepare supplies for surgical procedures, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Assemble and set up non-complex equipment, including orthopedic traction equipment, as needed.
  • Transport patients to and from the surgical suite, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Assist the OR nurse in lighting and positioning patients, as well as preparing them for discharge.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of unit equipment, maintaining a high level of cleanliness and organization.
  • Transport soiled case carts to the decontamination area and clean case carts to designated rooms.
  • Notify the Nurse Manager or Clinical Partner of any broken or damaged equipment, and transport it to the biomedical engineering department as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Report patient complaints, problems, and unusual occurrences to the appropriate RN/Clinical Partner.
  • Perform GOR cleaning per established guidelines and protocols, maintaining a high level of cleanliness and organization.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; OR Support Assistant training obtained on the job preferred.
  • Six (6) months experience in a direct patient care environment, with familiarity with basic patient activities, procedures, techniques, and protocols.
  • Ability to read and write English, with knowledge of aseptic techniques and OR supply, equipment, and instruments.
  • Interpersonal and oral communication skills, with the ability to interact with patients, visitors, nursing staff, and physicians.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment, with a focus on providing exceptional patient care and maintaining a clean and safe environment.
Working Conditions
  • Exposure to water, detergents, and other cleaning agents up to 50% of work time.
  • Exposure to potential hazards from used needles and other sharp objects up to 30% of work time.
  • Occasional exposure to anesthetic exhausts up to 10% of work time.
