Bus Operator

The Transit Driver will safely operate transit buses of varying sizes, transporting customers within established routes, in accordance with applicable Transit Management work rules, policies, and procedures. This includes adherence to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and other state and local traffic laws. The successful candidate must meet Department of Transportation Physical Standards.

• Operate transit buses safely on prescribed routes as directed.
• Conduct pre and post trip vehicle inspections and document on appropriate forms.
• Collect and record bus fares, and transfers in accordance with Lake County Transit procedures.
• Promote exemplary customer service by providing safe, courteous, and dependable service while transporting customers.
• Input information into computer-based equipment, such as Automated Vehicle Locator (AVL), Automatic Passenger Counter (APC), fare-box, and destination displays.
• Read and interpret maps and complex schedules, and provide route and schedule information to transit customers.
• Assist in the boarding of disabled customers who require the aid of accessible vehicles.
• Operate two-way bus radio system in accordance with Lake County Transit established policies and procedures and the Federal Communication Commission (FCC).

• Maintain a Commercial Class "A" or "B" CDL Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement.
• Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization and the general public.
• Ability to problem-solve under stressful conditions and tight time lines.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population.
• Ability to effectively manage and resolve customer conflicts.

Driver's License (Required), CDL B (Preferred), Passenger Endorsement (Preferred).
