Job Overview

The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for generating high-quality radiographic images of various body parts to assist in the diagnostic process as instructed by the Orthopedic Physician.

Key Responsibilities

  • Confirm relevant patient and procedural information.
  • Ensure accurate patient identification through dual identifiers.
  • Validate the physician's imaging request.
  • Analyze the physician's order to select the most suitable imaging technique for the suspected condition.
  • Check the patient's pregnancy status when necessary.
  • Inform patients about the imaging process.
  • Confirm that the patient has provided consent for the procedure.
  • Deliver clear explanations and instructions tailored to the patient's understanding.
  • Evaluate information gathered during the assessment phase to determine the best imaging settings based on the diagnosis.
  • Identify any factors that may contraindicate the procedure.
  • Select suitable shielding and immobilization tools.
  • Capture optimal images during the examination.
  • Adjust and set radiographic equipment as needed.
  • Position patients to obtain diagnostic images according to physician guidelines.
  • Utilize equipment effectively to enhance image quality.
  • Process films for physician review.
  • Maintain organized storage for developed films.
  • Document precise information regarding the patient and the examination.
  • Accurately label films with patient identifiers, including name and Social Security Number.
  • Mark films with appropriate right and left indicators or other markers as per protocol.
  • Keep equipment and work areas in optimal condition.
  • Conduct daily quality control checks on radiographic equipment.
  • Ensure adequate patient care and maintain necessary office supplies.
  • Perform additional duties of a medical assistant or medical secretary as required to support the efficient operation of the Orthopedic practice.
  • Assist in patient check-in by collecting and verifying demographic information.
  • Support the physician or physician assistant by preparing patients and x-ray images for examination.
  • Facilitate the physician's workflow to enhance patient care efficiency.
  • Manage patient check-out by scheduling follow-up appointments as needed.
  • Request authorization for MRI and surgical procedures when necessary.
  • Complete forms and faxes related to patient treatment and follow-up as required.
  • Assist with surgical scheduling as needed.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Qualifications Required

  • Completion of a Radiologic Technology Program accredited by JRCERT.
  • Relevant training or experience, preferably within the last five years.
  • Strong leadership skills, excellent organizational abilities, independent and critical thinking, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to communicate complex topics effectively to a diverse audience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • One year of experience in a medical-surgical setting.

Licenses, Certifications & Clearances

  • Current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Compliance with Act 33, Act 34, and Act 73 FBI Clearance requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This role does not include direct supervisory responsibilities but serves as a mentor for other staff members within the department.

Work Schedule

  • Work hours will be determined based on operational needs, including shift rotations, standby, and on-call duties.
  • Local travel between Excela Health locations may be required.
