Position Overview:
This role is based in Houston, TX, and is initially set for a duration of 6 months, with the potential for extension over multiple years. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of public and private accounting experience, with a preference for those who have audit exposure and government reporting knowledge. While a CPA designation is desirable, it is not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct variance analyses and validate financial records by identifying, investigating, and resolving discrepancies.
2. Provide back-office accounting support, including journal entry postings.
3. Assist in the preparation of various government financial filings for relevant agencies.
4. Prepare and review assigned account reconciliations.
5. Support various ad hoc accounting projects and provide general assistance as needed.

Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required; CPA and public accounting experience are preferred.
- A minimum of 5-8 years of accounting experience is essential.
- Familiarity with data processing systems in accounting and financial reporting environments is required, with experience in SAP (FI) and HFM being advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is necessary.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential for driving continuous improvement.
- The ability to manage multiple tasks and consistently meet deadlines is crucial.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
