Role Responsibilities:
- Exhibit the necessary practical and specialized skills required for the role of a perioperative nurse, adhering to regulatory standards.
- Fulfill the roles of circulator, scrub nurse, or Pre-Post Operative Staff Nurse as needed.
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedures, overseeing instrument and equipment preparation, and anticipating the surgeon's needs.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, medical assistants, and other clinical and non-clinical staff.
- Manage patient care by being available to anesthesia and assisting in any sudden changes in patient condition.
- Review patient charts for completeness in accordance with documentation protocols before and after surgical procedures.
- Maintain positive interpersonal relationships with patients, colleagues, and other healthcare team members.
- Communicate post-operative care instructions clearly to patients and ensure effective handoff communication to recovery staff.
- Monitor the operating room's workflow, notify physicians of any delays, assist with turnovers, and facilitate transitions between cases.
- Handle cleaning and operation of sterilizing equipment, such as steam autoclaves, for retrievals and transfers.
- Escort patients into collection rooms, manage sample handoffs to the embryology lab, and maintain cleanliness in collection areas.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ASN), with a current Registered Nurse license in Indiana; BSN preferred.
- Current certifications in BLS and ACLS.
- Proficient in IV and phlebotomy techniques.
- Minimum of two years' experience as an OR Nurse, scrub nurse, or PACU in a surgical center or hospital setting.
- Experience in Fertility, Women's Health, or OB-GYN is a plus.
