Job Title: Academic Advisor

Job Summary:

As an Academic Advisor at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, you will play a vital role in supporting students in achieving their academic goals. You will work closely with students to understand their interests, aptitudes, and goals, and provide guidance on academic policies and requirements. Your expertise will help students navigate the college curriculum and connect them with internal and external support services. You will also collaborate with administrators, faculty, and staff to ensure a diverse and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with administrators, faculty, and staff to provide academic guidance and support to students.
  • Orient students to the demands of college-level coursework and connect them with resources to improve their academic success.
  • Work closely with academic support services, such as the Writing Center, Math Center, and Tutoring Center, to prepare students for academic challenges.
  • Provide encouragement and support to students struggling with academic challenges.
  • Monitor student progress and identify areas where additional support is needed.
  • Present and participate in campus events and activities to promote student engagement and success.
  • Interpret and explain college policies and procedures to students and families.
  • Participate in new student orientation and present academic information to new students and parents.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated understanding of student development theory and the purpose and advantages of technical and general education programs in the community college environment.
  • Strong organizational, technological, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and advising management software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within the divisional team of experts while maintaining a focus on student success.


Preferred Requirements:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in Adult Basic Education and/or Developmental Education.
  • Two years of college-level academic advising and/or coaching experience with diverse student populations.


Benefits:

  • Hourly rate: $25.00/hr.
  • Part-time, non-exempt position, not to exceed 29 hours per week.
