Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Phlebotomy Specialist to join our laboratory team at Ashe Memorial Hospital. In this role, you will be responsible for collecting and processing specimens from inpatients and outpatients, as well as assisting with clerical and telephone duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collecting specimens in the appropriate container, properly labeled, and stored according to laboratory policy.
  • Performing heel-sticks on neonates, finger-stick procedures on pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients, and venipuncture on pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients according to laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Entering requests and printing labels with the Hospital Meditech computer system.
  • Faxing reports as requested promptly and accurately.
  • Collecting industrial drug screens following NIDA protocol.
  • Answering the telephone courteously and relaying messages promptly.
  • Notifying technologists of all ASAP and STAT orders.
  • Complying with hospital-wide and laboratory specific policies on Infection Control and Safety.
  • Attending in-services as possible.
  • Maintaining phlebotomy charts and area in a sanitary and properly supplied condition at all times.

Requirements:

  • CPR certification preferred.
  • Phlebotomy Certification by an Accredited Agency within 12 months of employment preferred.
  • High school diploma.
  • Attended a Medical Office Assistance Program and/or a Phlebotomy certification program, and/or some training in Emergency Medicine, and/or experience in Patient Care.
