Job Overview

This role offers a flexible schedule from Monday to Friday, with working hours from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM, totaling up to 29 hours weekly.

Compensation: $19.19 per hour

This position focuses on the upkeep and sanitation of bus shelters, while also providing support for various maintenance, cleaning, renovation, and repair tasks associated with Metro Bus properties and facilities.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties are illustrative of the types of work that may be performed. The absence of specific tasks does not exclude them if they are similar or related to the position.

  1. Bus Shelter Maintenance:
    1. Ensure cleanliness and proper upkeep of all Metro Bus shelters.
    2. Conduct thorough cleaning of shelter areas, including both interior and exterior surfaces, windows, and trash disposal.
    3. Maintain the exterior environment by managing weed control and removal.
    4. Update communication materials displayed at shelter locations.
    5. Manage the placement and removal of temporary bus stop signage along Metro Bus routes.
    6. Perform snow removal within shelters and surrounding walkways.
  2. Facility Maintenance Support:
    1. Assist in operating industrial cleaning equipment such as steam cleaners, pressure washers, and floor buffers, while ensuring equipment is functioning safely.
    2. Participate in scheduled maintenance checks and procedures, including routine inspections of car wash systems.
    3. Support general renovations, which may include welding, wall construction, painting, and landscaping tasks.
  3. Mechanical Assistance: Provide support for light mechanical troubleshooting and repairs.
  4. Professional Communication: Maintain courteous and professional interactions with coworkers and the public while executing job functions.
  5. Safety Compliance:
    1. Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to achieve job objectives while minimizing risks.
    2. Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment as required and practice safe work methods.
    3. Identify and report unsafe conditions promptly to supervisors or safety representatives.
  6. Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with one year of experience in janitorial or industrial cleaning, or in maintaining vehicles and properties, or a combination of education and experience.

Required Skills and Abilities
  • Understanding of commercial cleaning and housekeeping principles.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
  • Capability to interact tactfully and courteously with others.
  • Flexibility to work varying schedules, including nights and weekends.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication and conflict resolution.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  1. This position involves working in a maintenance shop with significant walking, climbing, and lifting requirements, including the ability to lift up to 40 pounds and push/pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
  2. Exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, and potential physical or chemical hazards.
  3. Occasional use of personal computers and office equipment.
  4. Travel outside the maintenance shop may be necessary, primarily utilizing Metro Bus vehicles.
