About the Job

Join the City of Spokane, WA team as an Elevator Inspector and play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and compliance of elevators, escalators, and other conveyances in the city. As an Elevator Inspector, you will be responsible for conducting inspections, reviewing plans, and issuing repair orders to ensure that all conveyances meet the necessary safety standards.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular inspections of elevators, escalators, and other conveyances to ensure compliance with state, municipal, and national laws and codes.
  • Review plans for new installations of conveyances and inspect and conduct acceptance tests on all new public and private installations.
  • Issue repair orders for conveyances found not to be in compliance with applicable codes.
  • Inspect conveyances after repairs and corrections have been made and order unsafe conveyances to be taken out of service and repaired.
  • Investigate complaints and injuries and may be required to testify in court as an expert witness on violations and interpretations of applicable codes and laws.
  • Provide information and code interpretation to the general public, conveyance owners and operators, architects, builders, and contractors, plans examiners and building officials.
  • Maintain records of all conveyances and their inspections, including those conducted by elevator companies.
  • Prepare reports as necessary and conduct annual inspections on all conveyances.
Requirements
  • License: Applicants must possess a Washington State Department of Labor and Industries Category 01 General Elevator Mechanic License.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience in the installation, service, and maintenance of elevators, lifts, and other conveyances.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
