Schedule Information
  • 12-hour shifts with 36-48 hour guarantees.
  • Every other weekend requirement.
  • Holiday requirements: 1 major, 1 minor.
Unit Specific Information
  • Mechanical lifts are available in every other room.
  • Hourly rounding and responsiveness are a top priority.
  • The unit typically has multiple discharges and admissions in one day.
  • The unit serves patients of all cultures, including Spanish, Karen, and Burmese.
Additional Details
  • Department: Med Tele / Ortho RN - 4th Floor North & South.
  • Nurse: Patient Ratios: 1:5-6.
  • Common diagnosis/types of patients: MedSurg/Tele- joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, failure to thrive.
  • RNs are required to titrate drips such as Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine.
  • Common titratable &/or set rate drips: PCA pumps.
  • Charge Nurse on each shift, who may take an assignment.
  • Nurse aids/patient care techs on this unit with duties and ratios.
  • Tele/Monitor Techs on the unit, RNs should have some tele awareness.
  • Scrubs Color/Dress Code: RNs: Navy Blue.
  • Unit/department specific orientation: 2 days.
  • Floating Requirements: Yes to other medical surgical areas or units with MedSurg patients waiting for a MedSurg bed.
