Job Summary
The Salvation Army USA Central Territory is seeking a skilled Dental Hygienist to join our team in providing emergency dental care to those in need. As a key member of our dental team, you will work alongside volunteer dental professionals to deliver high-quality care and support our mission to serve the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver local anesthesia and prepare patients for treatment, ensuring a safe and comfortable experience.
- Take and record vital signs and digital x-rays, maintaining accurate patient records.
- Assure that operatories are supplied and ready for dental services, adhering to standard practices and governing policies.
- Clean and sterilize equipment and instruments, upholding the highest standards of hygiene and safety.
- Provide patients with preventive and follow-up care instructions and education, promoting oral health and well-being.
- Review and update patient charts for accuracy and completeness, ensuring seamless communication among team members.
- Assist dentists in performing procedures as needed and instructed, demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and patient care.
Requirements
- Must be a licensed dental hygienist in the state of Minnesota.
- Local anesthetic certification is required.
- CPR certification is preferred.
- Must pass background checks, ensuring a safe and trustworthy environment for patients and staff.

- Able to make decisions in varying situations with general guidance and supervision, demonstrating adaptability and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work through an interpreter if needed, ensuring inclusive and respectful communication with patients and staff.
- Ability to provide a caring and supportive presence prior to and during procedures, prioritizing patient comfort and well-being.
- Second language proficiency in Spanish is preferred, but not required.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to communicate clearly in English, ensuring effective patient care and teamwork.
- Varying work hours may include one to two evenings per week, requiring flexibility and adaptability.
- Exposure to low levels of radiation from x-ray machines is possible, necessitating proper safety protocols and equipment maintenance.
- Bloodborne pathogens exposure risk level is 3, requiring adherence to strict safety guidelines and protocols.
- Must be able to occasionally lift 20 pounds, ensuring physical ability to perform job duties.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provide training, guidance, and supervision to volunteers, promoting a positive and supportive work environment.
Travel Requirements
No travel is required for this position, allowing for a stable and predictable work schedule.
