Position Overview:

Iteris is seeking a skilled Traffic Systems Engineer to engage in transportation and traffic engineering activities, focusing on traffic signal systems management, operations, and coordination studies under the mentorship of experienced engineering professionals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct traffic signal timing studies and manage signal systems operations.
  • Assist in the creation of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) plans, specifications, budget estimates, and reports.
  • Perform travel time assessments and analyze travel time data.
  • Develop existing and optimized condition models using Synchro.
  • Create basic controller interval timings and coordinated timing plans.
  • Implement and adjust traffic signal timing plans based on real-time field conditions.
  • Inventory traffic signal and ITS equipment.
  • Carry out traffic engineering studies, including traffic impact analyses and safety assessments.

ITS Planning and Design:
  • Develop plans and specifications, conduct systems engineering analysis, and prepare reports and budget estimates.
  • Engage in systems integration and network management tasks.
  • Support field implementation of ITS equipment.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas is required.
  • Preferred certifications include PTOE and IMSA.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in ITS/traffic engineering.
  • Proficiency with traffic system design, operations, and signal timing studies.
  • Experience with tools such as Synchro, Sim Traffic, VISSIM, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and ArcGIS.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A genuine passion for transportation engineering.
