Position Overview:
The Fleet Maintenance Technician will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, programming, and maintaining all vehicles and equipment utilized by the Sheriff's Office personnel, ensuring compliance with OEM specifications.

Key Responsibilities:
In this role, the technician will engage in a variety of tasks related to different types of vehicles and equipment, including:
- Automotive and light to medium-duty diesel trucks
- Agricultural machinery
- Small equipment such as motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs, boats, power generators, and electric golf carts
- Light and messaging equipment

Compensation:
Pay is determined based on automotive certifications and experience. The listed pay range is subject to increase following the probationary period and time-in-service.

Essential Duties:
- Conduct diagnostic assessments, servicing, and repairs of all electronic equipment and vehicles, including diesel and gas engine diagnostics, brake repairs, air conditioning and heating systems, electrical repairs, tire services, and heavy line work.
- Install and remove emergency equipment such as light bars, push bumpers, and sirens.
- Perform maintenance inspections and minor repairs, including adjustments, testing, and part replacements.
- Undertake major repairs, which may involve reconditioning and replacing components such as axles, pistons, bearings, gears, seals, valves, bushings, and pumps using specialized tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Troubleshoot malfunctions in fleet equipment and systems, covering engine and drive systems, fuel, electrical, cooling, suspension, chassis, and safety appliances, while adhering to EPA refrigerant recovery and recycling requirements.
- Execute road tests on equipment to ensure proper functionality.

Emergency Management:
Participate in emergency management activities during local emergencies.

Tire Repair:
Implement proper tire repair procedures specifically for pursuit vehicles.

Advanced Diagnostics:
Utilize advanced electronic and computerized diagnostic equipment to identify malfunctions.

Safety and Compliance:
Handle chemicals associated with fleet repair and maintenance safely, including cleaning solvents and lubricants. Read and interpret manufacturer schematics and vendor diagrams to complete installations and repairs of complex fleet and heavy equipment systems.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years of paid experience as a skilled automotive technician.
- Must possess 3 ASE certifications in Automotive A1-A8, or be able to obtain them within 6 months.
- Preferred training in GM, Ford, and Dodge vehicles.
- Experience in welding and fabrication is advantageous.

Knowledge and Skills:
- Familiarity with electronic systems and their operation in modern engines and transmissions.
- Extensive knowledge of computer controls and diagnostic tools.
- Ability to disassemble, repair, and reassemble engine and transmission components.
- Understanding of various types of generators, including diesel.
- Knowledge of workplace safety practices and regulations for mechanical and electrical equipment operation.

Work Environment:
Typically situated in a comfortable indoor and outdoor setting, with regular exposure to dust, fumes, temperature extremes, and loud noise. Must be capable of lifting 50 pounds independently and 100 pounds with assistance.

Additional Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and resident of the contiguous United States for sufficient time to conduct a background investigation.
- Valid driver's license and proof of liability insurance required, with no more than 3 moving violations in the past 3 years.
- No convictions above a Class B Misdemeanor within the last 10 years.
