Job Summary

As a Master Diesel Mechanic, you will play a vital role in maintaining the safety, efficiency, and reliability of our fleet vehicles. You will be responsible for conducting inspections, performing repairs, and ensuring that all vehicles meet regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough inspections and maintenance on a variety of vehicles and equipment to ensure optimal performance and adherence to safety regulations.
  • Perform annual inspections on all fleet vehicles in accordance with industry standards and legal requirements.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance procedures to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of our vehicles.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues, utilizing your expertise in diesel engine systems and components.
  • Specialize in refrigeration unit maintenance and repair, ensuring proper temperature control for our perishable goods.
  • Document all work performed accurately and efficiently, maintaining detailed records for future reference.
  • Mentor and guide junior technicians, sharing your knowledge and experience to foster their professional development.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license; a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred.
  • Technical training in Medium/Heavy Duty trucks, coupled with 2 years of formal education and 4 years of experience, or a minimum of 5 years of proven fleet maintenance experience.
  • Industry-recognized certifications such as Annual Inspector Certification, Brake Inspector Certification, ASE certifications in Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks, and EPA section 608 and 609 HVAC & Refrigeration Certification are highly valued.

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated expertise in vehicle systems and components, with a strong understanding of electrical systems diagnosis and repair.
  • Proficiency in refrigeration system maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures and best practices.
  • Welding and cutting skills are essential for certain repairs.
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and safety protocols is crucial.
  • Ability to utilize diagnostic software effectively.
  • Must possess a comprehensive set of tools necessary for the job.

Physical Demands

  • This role requires various physical activities, including sitting, standing, lifting, and reaching.
  • You must be able to operate equipment and tools safely and efficiently.
  • Repetitive motions using wrenches and hand tools are common tasks.
  • Frequent outdoor work is expected in diverse weather conditions.

Working Conditions

  • Be prepared to work in environments that may involve extreme temperatures, confined spaces, and exposure to fumes and noise.
  • Non-traditional work hours, including nights and weekends, may be required to meet operational needs.
