Position Overview

The selected candidate will become a vital member of our established safety team, reporting directly to the Safety Manager. A minimum of three years of safety experience is essential. Key responsibilities include conducting safety training sessions, performing site inspections, executing documentation audits, investigating accidents and incidents, and analyzing statistical data. The ability to foster strong working relationships and communicate effectively with different levels of management and field personnel is crucial, along with the capacity to coach, enforce, and enhance safety performance. Candidates with demonstrated safety professional credentials (such as memberships or certifications), basic Spanish language skills, and relevant field experience outside of safety will be given preference.

Experience collaborating with a Fleet Management team and familiarity with the CDL/DOT processes are advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and management of the Project Safety Program, including the formulation of site safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct training sessions, including new hire safety training and regular safety meetings.
  • Perform safety inspections and audits on projects, effectively communicating identified hazards and safety expectations to both craft and management personnel.
  • Assist in monitoring project compliance with safety regulations.
  • Understand regulatory record-keeping requirements and safety administrative procedures.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

General: To excel in this role, candidates must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed below represent the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Education and Experience: This role is an entry-level position within the Construction Safety sector. A bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field is required. Familiarity with construction safety standards and current Federal and OSHA regulations is preferred. Practical field knowledge in areas such as Heavy Highway and Bridge Construction, Crane Operations, and Asphalt Plant activities is advantageous. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and database management is required. Strong writing and communication skills are essential. A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record are mandatory. Certification as a Safety Professional is a plus.

Physical Requirements: The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Safety Engineer to successfully perform the essential functions of this role:

  • Ability to perform duties in various work environments, including diverse weather conditions and terrains.
  • Regularly required to sit and/or stand for a standard work shift of at least eight hours.
  • Occasional requirements to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.
  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds frequently and carry up to 15 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Continuous mental focus is necessary to complete tasks efficiently.

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those encountered while performing the essential functions of this role:

  • Work is conducted both indoors (office setting) and outdoors (construction and asphalt sites).
  • Must be capable of performing duties in varying work environments, including diverse weather conditions and terrains.
