Michigan Sugar Company is seeking a skilled Mechanic to join our Packaging and Warehouse Department. As a Mechanic, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our sugar processing facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues with packaging equipment and perform routine maintenance tasks
  • Coordinate with the Maintenance Coordinator and Parts Cage Attendant to manage inventory and track parts
  • Navigate the parts cage to locate in-stock items and charge out parts to equipment
  • Support supervisors, foremen, team leaders, and maintenance crews to minimize downtime and production loss
  • Monitor and repair inbound and outbound sugar path equipment, including summer maintenance tasks
  • Respond to radio calls for mechanical repairs, prioritizing importance and reporting any downtime exceeding 20 minutes to supervisors or foremen
  • Complete assigned work orders and identify projects to fill your schedule
  • Fulfill daily shift change forms documenting worked performed and information hand-off
  • Research and store maintenance information on the company website and files for future reference
  • Determine size and quantity of materials, manage inventories, and utilize technical tools and measuring devices
  • Rigging and lifting equipment and parts across multiple floors
  • Understand blueprint reading and basic mathematical calculations, including decimals and fractions
  • Lift and carry items up to 40-50 pounds repetitively; above 50 pounds requires assistance or a mechanical lifting device

Requirements:

  • College certificate or license in a maintenance-related field
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • PREFERRED: 3+ years of industrial mechanic experience
  • PREFERRED: Knowledge of plumbing and compressed air systems
  • Able to navigate computers and equipment PLCs to operate machinery

Competencies:

  • Strong organizational skills to coordinate and track different equipment settings and practices
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction, finding own or group projects
  • Quick problem-solving and decision-making skills, prioritizing employee and food safety
  • Demonstrate personal leadership and a positive can-do attitude, assisting others as needed
  • Flexible and able to work in fast-paced environments with limited resources
  • Effective teamwork and project model behavior
  • Self-leadership through demonstrated ethics and integrity, drive, purpose, capability to learn, self-management, and increased self-awareness
