General Overview
This position is essential for nurses with over 12 months of experience. The Registered Nurse provides and coordinates comprehensive care to patients within a specialized clinical area as an integral member of the multidisciplinary care team. This role utilizes the institution's care delivery and professional practice frameworks as a guide for nursing practice. The RN is responsible for personal practice development and contributes to the achievement of unit goals. Accountability extends to patients, families, and team members, as well as adherence to the organization's Service Standards and Nursing Mission, Vision, and Values.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates proficiency in caring for the specific patient population; independently practices with strong clinical knowledge and skills.
- Acts as a clinical resource for colleagues.
- Integrates evidence-based practices into patient care.
- Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate patient care, advocating for patient and family needs.
- Models practices that ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
Professional Development:
- Engages in continuous professional development.
- Maintains competencies required for the clinical setting; focuses on advancing personal professional growth.
- Participates in unit-based staff development activities.
- Serves as a preceptor and mentor for new nurses and students.
- Contributes to the development and evaluation of unit orientation and educational initiatives.

- Completes continuing education requirements annually.
Quality and Safety:
- Understands and contributes to unit-based outcomes related to quality measures.
- Participates in research, evidence-based practice, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Delivers high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care while striving to exceed service expectations.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory standards and holds peers accountable.
Patient Safety:
- Takes proactive measures to address potential risks to patient safety.
- Reports incidents and near misses to appropriate management.
- Implements policies and procedures consistently in daily practice.
- Fosters effective communication and collaboration with team members.
- Identifies and communicates potential risks in processes and procedures.
- Participates in patient safety initiatives at the hospital and departmental levels.
Operational Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates capability in the charge nurse role.
- Engages in team-building activities within the unit.
- Contributes to staff meetings and briefings.
- Participates in governance structures at the unit and organizational levels.
- Involved in recruitment and retention efforts at the unit level.
- Provides constructive feedback during peer reviews as requested.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Maryland or eligibility through Compact state agreements.
- Minimum of 12 months of nursing experience with solid clinical skills.
- Current AHA BLS certification is required.
