Job Summary

Volunteers of America Eastern WA Northern ID is seeking a highly skilled Security Specialist - Crisis Response to join our team. As a key member of our security team, you will be responsible for maintaining the safety and security of our programs and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support, safety, and security for residents, shelter guests, and Volunteers of America (VOA) staff at assigned locations.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of property guidelines, resources, and participants for multiple sites and shelters.
  • Conduct interior and exterior walks throughout your shift and review cameras.
  • Observe and report any suspicious, illegal, and/or criminal activity.
  • Document events throughout each shift and complete the nightly shift report and other required forms.
  • Work with and respect all VOA clients, regardless of circumstances, behaviors, or needs.
  • Help to identify clients who may require additional support/services to maintain their housing and communicate these needs to their case manager.
  • Remain awake, alert, and available throughout each shift, including overnights.
  • Maintain situational awareness and continually assess surroundings.
  • Deliver and post legal documents, explain the documents to those we serve, and complete and turn in Proof of Service forms in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that all documentation is complete and valid before submitting/sharing.
  • Wear Security-appropriate attire approved by Security Supervisor with provided badge.
  • Participate in regular Security Team Meetings, Coaching/Supervision, and other required Program and VOA Agency meetings and trainings.
  • Work well with a team, as well as individually, when needed.
  • Read and adhere to Agency policies, procedures, professional code of ethics, and boundaries.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of Security work experience and/or related experience working with individuals in crisis who are low-income, homeless, at-risk, and vulnerable.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Social Work.
  • Motivational Interviewing training and/or experience.
  • Verbal De-escalation training and/or experience.
  • Familiarity with Fair Housing/Harm Reduction and Housing First.
  • Reflective Listening training and/or experience.
  • Experience in working with culturally diverse populations.
  • Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Word and Excel.
  • Experience in reviewing security camera video footage.
  • Experience using and entering data into Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) or other client databases.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to operate a computer with keyboard and mouse, as well as other office equipment, such as printers, copy machines, telephones, etc.
  • Frequently required to remain in a stationary position (such as sitting or standing); stand, walk, climb stairs, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms; travel by foot to patrol and deliver notices; lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Conditions
  • Noise Conditions: This job operates in residential project-based housing environments, shelters, and office spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate consisting of usual business office sounds including but not limited to computers, printers, telephones, and light traffic.
  • Heat/Cold: May be subject to heat, cold, wet, and/or humid weather conditions, and occasionally extreme heat and/or cold.
  • Injury Exposure: Position requires working with standard office equipment - copy machine, computers, and phones.
  • Atmospheric Exposures: May be exposed to various scents and perfumes, less than sanitary or uncomfortable conditions, various pests and pathogens, participants' service and emotional support animals, as well as clients in physical, mental, or emotional distress.
