Position Overview:

The role of a School-Based Occupational Therapist is essential in fostering students' academic and social achievements by addressing their motor, sensory, and functional requirements within the educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and Evaluation:
    • Conduct thorough assessments to determine students' needs related to fine and gross motor skills, sensory processing, and daily living activities.
    • Utilize various diagnostic tools and methods to collect comprehensive information and create tailored therapy plans.
  • Individualized Education Plans (IEPs):
    • Collaborate with the educational team to develop and execute Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
    • Establish clear, measurable objectives for each student's occupational therapy requirements and devise targeted intervention strategies.
  • Therapeutic Interventions:
    • Deliver direct therapy services to enhance students' motor skills, sensory processing, and daily living capabilities.
    • Implement evidence-based practices and customized therapeutic activities to meet individual needs and promote student engagement in school activities.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork:
    • Work closely with classroom educators, special education personnel, and other school professionals to integrate therapy goals into daily classroom routines.
    • Provide guidance and training to teachers and staff on strategies to assist students with occupational therapy needs.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain precise and current records of student assessments, progress notes, and treatment plans.
    • Prepare comprehensive reports for IEP meetings and parent conferences, ensuring all documentation adheres to regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Family and Community Engagement:
    • Effectively communicate with parents and guardians to update them on student progress and collaborate on strategies to support development at home.
    • Participate in school and community events to raise awareness of occupational therapy and advocate for students' needs.
  • Professional Development:
    • Engage in continuous professional development to remain informed about advancements in occupational therapy practices.
    • Attend relevant workshops, seminars, and conferences to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure: Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the state of Georgia. National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) certification is mandatory.
  • Experience: Experience in a school environment or with children is highly desirable. New graduates with strong clinical training and a passion for educational settings are encouraged to apply.
