Job Summary

The Nursing Assistant/Ward Clerk/EKG Tech works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, providing specific care to assigned patients, administering simple treatments, and promoting a safe environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Registered Nurses with nursing care of assigned patients according to established policies and procedures.
  • Take and record temperatures, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure in an accurate manner.
  • Document patient care, vital signs, and I&O in the Hospital Information System.
  • Perform EKGs and provide general comfort, welfare, and safety of patients.
  • Ward clerk duties as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of patient work area and patient care unit equipment.
  • Respond to patient call lights promptly and provide necessary assistance.
Qualifications
  • High School Graduate
  • Nurse Aide certificate or equivalent
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Standing/Walking 95% of the day
  • Ability to lift and transport patients
  • Visual and auditory acuity
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous EKG and Ward Clerk experience

Stony Brook Medicine is a smoke-free environment. Smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere on campus, including parking lots and outdoor areas. All Hospital positions may be subject to changes in pass days and shifts as necessary. Shift differential available for night shift. This position may require the wearing of respiratory protection, which may prohibit the wearing of facial hair. This function/position may be designated as essential.
