Phlebotomy Specialist

As a Phlebotomist at South Shore Health, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory services. Your primary responsibility will be to collect blood and other specimens from patients, using aseptic techniques and following established protocols to minimize discomfort and ensure accurate results.

1. Phlebotomy Procedures
   1. Perform venipuncture, fingerstick, and heelstick procedures with minimal discomfort to the patient.
   2. Identify patients and properly label specimen tubes.
   3. Prioritize STAT draws and ensure timely transport of all patient specimens to the lab for testing.
2. Computer Skills
   1. Verify all information for accuracy.
   2. Perform order entry with no errors.
3. Work Organization and Communication
   1. Organize assigned work and accurately complete workload statistics.
   2. Assist co-workers with blood-drawing procedures.
   3. Communicate with laboratory departments to ensure an orderly workflow.
4. Training and Safety
   1. Under supervision, help in the training of new employees and student interns in phlebotomy duties.
   2. Consistently adhere to established protocols for patient identification and safety procedures.

• Equivalent of four (4) years of high school education preferred.
• One (1) year of full-time experience preferred.
• BLS - Basic Life Support certification required.
