Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Water Plant Operator to join our team at the City of Alexandria, LA. As a key member of our Utilities Department, you will be responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining water production and treatment systems to ensure the delivery of safe and clean drinking water to our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and monitor water production and treatment systems, including wells, pumps, chemical feeders, and agitators.
  • Conduct visual inspections of facilities, equipment, and well sites to detect equipment failures, potential leaks, or other problem situations.
  • Collect water samples for chemical analysis and chemical control testing, and record all test results.
  • Perform manual and unskilled cleaning/maintenance tasks to support operations and maintain equipment, tools, facilities, and grounds around the well sites.
  • Assist in requisitioning, organizing, and maintaining inventory of department equipment, chemicals, parts, and supplies.
  • Communicate status of production operations to supervisor or other appropriate personnel, and communicate with employees, other departments, service representatives, customers, and other individuals as needed.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must maintain a functional telephone and be capable of responding to the site within one (1) hour of being notified.
  • Must possess the State of Louisiana Class IV Water Production and Class IV Water Treatment certifications prior to completion of a seven (7) year apprentice period.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Working Conditions

This position is subject to 24-hour call and requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with varying temperatures and humidity levels.
