Job Purpose


The primary responsibility is to oversee the distribution system's operations, ensuring effective monitoring, control, and maintenance of transmission, distribution, and station facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Accountable for the safe, secure, reliable, and efficient operation of National Grid's Distribution system in New York.

Responsibilities include:
  • Coordinating planned, forced, and emergency outages with relevant entities.
  • Conducting Load Flow Analysis and Contingency Analysis using advanced energy management applications.
  • Operating distribution system equipment within established parameters.
  • Implementing emergency protocols.
  • Evaluating and assessing automated system activations.
  • Dispatching resources for load balancing and maintaining operational limits.
  • Performing day-ahead analysis for the distribution system and taking necessary actions to ensure real-time operational compliance.
  • Monitoring the health and accuracy of the Distribution Management System, reporting any anomalies.
  • Reviewing weather forecasts to analyze potential impacts on the system and developing action plans to mitigate issues.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory agency standards and company procedures.
  • Promoting a safe work environment to prevent injuries, outages, and disturbances.
  • Maintaining effective working relationships with various stakeholders, including DER Operators, Aggregators, and neighboring utilities.
Qualifications

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering/Power Systems is preferred, or 3-5 years of relevant operational experience.
  • Familiarity with the operation of electric distribution and transmission systems.
  • Understanding the relationship between market dynamics and system operations.
  • Knowledge of energy management systems and related applications.
  • Ability to evaluate options and make informed decisions in real-time.
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in personal computer applications, including Word and Excel.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts in a 24/7 operational environment.
Compensation

Salary range: $115k - $162k annually.
