Position Overview: We are excited to announce a new opportunity in Radiation Oncology at St. Luke's Monroe Campus.

Job Summary: The primary role of the Senior Medical Physicist is to collaborate with the chief physicist and radiation oncologists to deliver high-quality radiation therapy to patients. This position entails overseeing treatment planning and ensuring the calibration of radiation therapy equipment. The Senior Medical Physicist will work closely with Radiation Oncologists to design, plan, and supervise all phases of patient treatment within the department. The Radiation Oncologist maintains ultimate authority over treatment decisions, including those related to physics and dosimetry.

Qualifications:
1. Graduate degree in medical physics is required.
2. Completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Residency Program is mandatory.

Key Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

1. Uphold confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/Entity and ensure proper information release.

2. Adhere to Network and departmental policies regarding employee, patient, and environmental safety, following appropriate reporting protocols.

3. Exemplify the Network's Service Excellence Standards in all interactions with customers (internal and external).

4. Engage in Performance Improvement initiatives across various domains, including Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational Systems/Processes, and Safety.

5. Demonstrate financial responsibility through efficient resource utilization in daily operations.

6. Comply with attendance and dress code policies.

7. Exhibit competency in patient assessment, treatment range, developmental knowledge, and communication tailored to the patient's age.

8. Conduct routine calibration and testing of radiation-producing facilities, including linear accelerators and simulators, in accordance with State and Federal regulations.

9. Measure radiation characteristics and gather dosimetry data for clinical applications.

10. Oversee treatment planning and dosage calculations for patients.

11. Perform routine patient chart reviews to monitor treatment progression and accuracy.

12. Supervise equipment maintenance and quality improvement programs.

13. Conduct acceptance testing and commissioning of new equipment.

14. Execute dose calculations and measurements for radiosensitive organs, as well as supervise radiation shielding calculations and designs for patient treatment.

15. Oversee in-vivo dosimetry conducted by dosimetrists/therapists.

16. Participate in administering Brachytherapy, including HDR, LDR, and SirSpheres, assisting in simulation and treatment planning.

17. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards for handling radioactive sources.

18. Report equipment failures or medical events to the chief physicist and Network Administrator.

19. Manage SRS/SRT/SBRT planning and QA, including IMRT QA.

20. Provide training to Radiation Oncology therapists.

Additional Responsibilities:

1. Assist the Radiation Safety Officer in executing the ALARA Program to protect personnel and visitors from radiation exposure and ensure regulatory compliance.

2. Perform routine calculations and weekly chart checks.

3. Undertake other related duties as assigned.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

Ability to sit for up to 5 hours daily, stand for 2 hours, and walk for 1 hour, with frequent handling and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Capable of performing tasks that require visual acuity, hearing, and physical dexterity.

Education:

1. Graduate program in medical physics is required.
2. Completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Residency Program is essential.
