GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, this role is essential for the upkeep of park operations, maintenance, and visitor services at Monahans Sandhills State Park. The position encompasses all aspects of maintenance for facilities, structures, vehicles, equipment, and park landscapes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Operating various types of machinery, including power mowers, tools, trucks, tractors, and other gasoline-powered equipment.
  • Conducting daily cleaning and maintenance of restrooms, buildings, facilities, and park grounds.
  • Managing revenue collection, preparing reports, issuing permits, handling visitor registration, and ensuring fiscal control.
  • Providing excellent visitor services by offering information about the park to the public and guests.
  • Assisting in the enforcement of park rules and regulations.

This position operates under general supervision, allowing for moderate independence and initiative. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary, and compliance with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, regulations, and procedures is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School diploma or GED.

Experience: A minimum of three years in facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance.

Licensure: A valid state driver's license is required if driving is part of the job duties.

ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:

Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum of two years substitution.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience: Experience in public interaction and customer service is highly valued.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Essential knowledge includes:

  • Facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance.
  • General custodial duties.
  • Basic mathematics.

Skills required:

  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Capability to perform repairs in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Ability to accurately manage cash and account for collected revenue.
  • Ability to conduct trail maintenance and enforce park regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Adherence to safety protocols as outlined by TPWD.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This role requires working in a public park environment with overnight camping. The position entails a 40-hour work week with varying schedules, including hours outside the standard 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. timeframe and days off that may not align with weekends or holidays. Overtime may be necessary, and work will be performed outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

Compliance with TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures is mandatory. The position may require operating a State vehicle and entails minimal travel.
