We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Foster Care Adoption Specialist to join our team at Paths for Families. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in supporting prospective adoptive families and children in need of adoption.

Job Summary

The Foster Care Adoption Specialist will be responsible for preparing prospective adoptive families to address and respond to the emotional and behavioral needs of children experiencing public foster care. This includes building relationships with waiting families, facilitating support groups, and providing guidance and support throughout the adoption process.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Client Support: Build relationships with waiting families, meeting with them at least quarterly, to support and advise during the search process. Provide guidance and support to families after a child is placed.
  2. Matching: Meet with each assigned family with an approved home study to explore the type of child(ren) they are hoping to parent. Ensure that prospective adoptive parents have access to necessary services to maximize the success of potential placements.
  3. Transition Planning: Develop and implement transition plans in conjunction with the prospective adoptive parents and the child's worker. Maintain close contact with adoptive parents to address any concerns and provide guidance and support.
  4. Placement, Post-Placement & Finalization: Interface with social workers and families about any concerns that arise during post-placement supervision. Provide appropriate referrals for other resources in the adoptive parents' community as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Family Science, Social Work, Human Services, Social Services, or a closely related field required; Master's degree in social work or counseling preferred.
  • Minimum two years of professional experience in child welfare, adoption, and/or foster care required.
  • Knowledge of trauma, attachment, and child welfare preferred.
Preferred Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interface with clients, social workers, and staff.
  • Ability to provide compassionate support to families going through the adoption journey in times of transition and crisis.
  • Highly organized with the ability to multitask and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Ability to think and work independently, prioritize, and problem solve.
