Job Summary

The Security Worker assists in maintaining a positive and safe educational environment. This role is considered a district position, and the Security Worker reports to the principal of the assigned school and the District Director of Security.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers and staff with individual student management, including home visits.
  • Manage trespassers on school property.
  • Secure the building.
  • Participate in orderly student passing and supervision of student activities.
  • Monitor visitors and assist staff in student management at assemblies and other group activities.
  • Direct students to their appropriate activity and check hallway passes.
  • Supervise cafeterias, public hallways, and bathrooms.
  • Assist students with locker problems and participate in loss control programs.
  • Supervise student lounge areas and assist with staff in orderly boarding and exiting of school buses.
  • Reduce property destruction and manage sporting activities when directed by the principal or designee.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma required.
  • State-certification as a Security Officer (mandated by state law).
  • Demonstrated interest in developing skills related to current trends in school security.
  • Demonstrated experience in security work preferred.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with students, staff, parents, and community groups.
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written).
Physical Demands

Candidates must have the ability to perform physical requirements of school security, including rapid response, stamina for climbing stairs and extensive walking.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for extended periods to assist students and/or staff, and to monitor areas of the physical plant.
  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, and kneel.
  • The employee must have the ability to respond to a call by actually running for a short distance.
  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
